Dangerous processionary caterpillars active in Spain

Written by on 8 March 2021

With spring in Spain, the caterpillars of the procession moth become active again. Their fine, poisonous stinging hairs cause allergic reactions and are therefore dangerous to humans and animals – especially dogs. The first months of each year is the period when the dangerous processionary caterpillars are active in Spain. This year, however, the scale of the plague could be much greater, the National Association of Environmental Health Companies warns. On the one hand, as a result of the corona pandemic, pest control, which is usually carried out annually by the communities, was suspended. On the other hand, only endotherapy should be used in the fight against the pest.
