More than 50 cast iron manhole covers disappeared from the streets of Javea

More than 50 cast iron manhole covers and drainage grids have disappeared from the streets of Javea. An official complaint has now been filed with the Guardia Civil. In addition to the costs involved – the stolen covers were worth about $ 10,000 – the councilor pointed out that the resulting potholes in the roads endanger motorists and pedestrians alike. Local police have stepped up patrols and called on residents to contact them if they see manhole covers being removed. Meanwhile, the Guardia Civil is trying to identify not only the thieves, but also the dealers who buy the stolen material, presumably for scrap metal.
