This is the regional Costa Blanca news for tuesday, december 20, 2022.

The sand dune system on the site of the long-abandoned but now demolished Arenales del Sol hotel in Elche has now been fully restored, the town hall reports. The work was carried out by the Ministry of Coastal Department of Ecological Transition.

Ecovidrio, the non-profit recycling company, and the town hall of Guardamar have launched a Christmas awareness campaign. Entitled Tenemos Razones de Peso (We have weighty reasons), together they hope to encourage locals to recycle their glass in the festive-looking red containers installed on Guardamar’s Plaza de la Constitucion, Avenida Cervantes and Calle Ingeniera Mira. Launching December 22 and running through January 5, the initiative invites residents and visitors to recycle during a season when more bottles are bought – and emptied – than at any other time of the year, accounting for a fifth of the annual total of Spain. According to company figures, Guardamar recycled 528,818 kilograms of glass in 2021, which equates to just over 33 kilograms per inhabitant.

AENA has started construction of a collection car park at the arrivals hall of Alicante airport with space for 27 vehicles. The first 10 minutes in the new area, which should be ready by spring, will be free for the first 10 minutes and simplify things for private vehicles. Although AENA made drop-off parking available outside the airport’s departure hall three years ago, since the inauguration of the “new” airport in 2011, only buses, coaches and taxis were allowed to stop in the arrivals area.

The stench caused by the overloaded or malfunctioning sewage treatment plant on Benissa-La Fustera beach will soon come to an end. At least that is what Mayor Arturo Poquet says, who recently announced to residents that a new facility is planned for €150,000.

The regional government is allocating 44 million euros for 2023 to help ‘vulnerable collectives’ pay for their prescriptions. Vice President in Valencia, Aitana Mas, says the measure has been adopted by the regional parliament.

A motorist has lost control of his vehicle in Teulada. The vehicle almost drove into a house and came to a stop against the facade. According to a spokesman for the provincial fire service, the driver was removed from the car through the trunk. The condition of the victim is not known.
