From 11 May, new speeds will apply on roads within built-up areas in Spain. The new speeds were announced in the Spanish Official Gazette on November 11, 2020. However, it is not until six months later, on May 11, that these speeds come into effect in Spain. That six months is so that road users can get used to and prepare for the new speeds. On single lane roads + sidewalks the limit will be 20 km / h. On roads with one lane per direction of travel, the limit will be 30 km / h. On roads with two or more lanes in each direction, the limit remains 50 km / h. Motorways (autovias) that cross a city or municipality are given a new speed limit of 80 km / h.
