Number of “autónomos” in the province of Alicante increased during corona pandemic

The number of “autónomos” in the province of Alicante increased during the corona pandemic. This is evident from figures from the Instituto de Estudios Económicos de Alicante (Ineca). 22% of all workers are self-employed in the province. At the end of January 2021, 133,394 self-employed persons were registered in the province of Alicante, while 474,442 employees were registered. Especially in March and April 2020, the number of self-employed people rose explosively. It concerns the first two months of the first state of emergency when many companies closed or offered their employees temporary layoffs.
