Torrevieja is one of the three most unsafe cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants in Spain. The other two are El Prat near Barcelona and Barcelona itself. At El Prat, this is partly due to the presence of the regional airport Barcelona-El Prat. 66.6 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants were reported in Torrevieja. The list of the ten most unsafe municipalities includes several coastal municipalities where tourism is an important economic activity. Torrevieja takes 3rd place. Palma de Mallorca is in 5th place, Ibiza in 8th place.
