Written by on 2 December 2022

Every Monday to Friday you can hear the regional news (in Dutch) in the Morningshow, between 7 and 9. This is today’s news:

Football prodigy Xavi Simons, who is currently in Qatar as part of the Dutch World Cup squad, grew up in Rojales. And the city council thought they should do something about it. That is why the municipal football field is now named after Simons. The full council meeting approved a motion to officially name it the “Campo Municipal de Fútbol Xavi Simons.”

The regional government’s climate change law has finally received the green light from the Parliament of Valencia. This happened during the last scheduled session of the year. The legislation is a “commitment of the Valencian society to its future generations”, said Isaura Navarro, regional councilor for the ecological transition. “We have done our duty to meet the urgent need to decarbonise the Valencian economy and adapt to the challenges of climate change,” she declared.

Mayor Toni Pérez of Benidorm is not happy with the choice of the regional parliament in Valencia. That has approved the so-called ‘tourist tax’. The tasa turística will come into force in a year. However, it is up to the town halls to decide whether to apply the levy to overnight stays in tourist accommodations in their municipality. Many municipalities with different political convictions say they will not do this. Pérez has also criticized the tax several times before. The mayor of Benidorm has already announced that his council will not introduce this tax.
